Andrew Lewer, MP for Northampton South, column: Litter Wombles secure a Westminster litter summit

Fly-tipping and littering are the scourge of our communities. Apart from the untidiness and environmental issues, it destroys civil pride and undermines community cohesion. In West Northants, the council reported 17,000 instances of fly-tipping in one year alone. That is 47 a day. Now we have a civic force that says enough is enough. They are called Northants Litter Wombles, (NLW) and they mean business.
